SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP
What We Do
Welcome to the PHANZ Whaikaha Disability Special Interest Group, a space for those committed to disability equity, access, and lived-experience leadership in public health across Aotearoa.
This group exists to elevate the voices and leadership of disabled people, and to influence public health policy and practice through a disability rights lens. We believe true equity starts with lived experience and must be grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, inclusive of all cultural identities, and shaped through collaboration and innovation.
We are here to build connection and community, to create a space where mana is upheld, insights are shared, and diverse lived experiences are valued. From advocates and whānau to practitioners and researchers, we come together to learn from one another and push for a public health system that is accessible, inclusive, and just.
If you’re passionate about disability rights and equity in public health, and want to be part of a network that centres hauora, justice, and whaikaha, we’d love for you to join us. Contact us at whaikaha.sig@pha.org.nz.
To join the Whaikaha Disability SIG, you’ll need to be a PHANZ member. If you’re not already a member, you can join here.
