RURAL HEALTH

SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP

What We Do

Welcome to the PHANZ Rural Health Special Interest Group—a space for those committed to advancing health equity for rural and remote communities across Aotearoa.

This group exists to influence public health policy and practice so that it reflects the unique realities, strengths, and challenges of people living in rural and isolated areas. We believe solutions must be grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, shaped by lived experience, and driven by local knowledge and leadership.

We are here to build connection and community—to create a space where whanaungatanga thrives, where diverse voices are not only heard but amplified. From small towns to remote settlements, from hauora providers to community leaders, we come together to share ideas, support one another, and advocate for a public health system that works for all.

If you’re passionate about rural health and want to be part of a network that’s grounded, responsive, and kaupapa-driven—we’d love to have you in the mix. Contact us at ruralhealth.sig@pha.org.nz.

To join the Rural Health SIG, you’ll need to be a PHANZ member. If you’re not already a member, you can join here.
