PHANZ ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2025 RESULTS

Tēnā koutou katoa,

We are excited to share the outcomes of the Public Health Association of New Zealand’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Tuesday, 28 October 2025. The meeting was an excellent opportunity for the Council and management to reflect on the year’s achievements and share our priorities for the year ahead. Together, we remain committed to advancing health equity, strengthening the public health workforce, and building healthier communities across Aotearoa.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Patrick (Pat) Salmon and Dr Ramil Adhikari as Co-Presidents. Both Pat and Ramil are returning members who bring experience, leadership, and commitment to the vision and kaupapa of PHANZ. We also welcome back Dr Nari Faiers (previous Co-President – Māori), Nivedita Sharma Vij, Kylie McKee, and Dr Jalal Mohammed.

We are especially pleased to welcome three new Executive Council members: Sheldon-Brooke Aitkin, Jean Rangiwai, and Ali Leota. We look forward to the fresh insight and expertise they will bring and will be showcasing all new members on our website and social media platforms in the coming months.

Members also approved the re-registration of PHANZ as an Incorporated Society and adopted a streamlined, more accessible Constitution. This updated document ensures compliance with the Charities Amendment Act 2023 and the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, while positioning PHANZ for a strong and sustainable future.

We would like to make special acknowledgement of Gail Duncan, who joined the Executive Council in 2020 and served with distinction as Co-President – General from 2021 to 2025. Gail’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in strengthening PHANZ’s advocacy and partnerships. While she leaves the Council table, we know she will continue to contribute her knowledge, mentorship, and support to the organisation. We also acknowledge Taumaoe Andrea Meni, who served as the Pacific representative from 2022 to 2025. Andrea’s dedication has ensured that Pacific health perspectives remain central to our mahi.

The continued success of PHANZ is made possible through the unwavering support and dedication of our team. On behalf of the Council and members, we extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Cadence Kaumoana and her staff for their outstanding efforts and leadership. We also thank our Council members for their governance, advocacy, and representation on behalf of all PHANZ members.

We look forward to continuing our mahi together and welcoming you to our next AGM on 27 October 2026.
