Upcoming events

The Public Health Association of New Zealand (PHANZ) plays a vital role in promoting public health and advocating for policies and initiatives that improve the well-being of communities.

Hosting and leading events is one of the ways the PHANZ engages with their members and the public while advancing public health goals.

We lead a number of activities and events including:

  • Annual Conferences

The PHANZ organises annual conferences which bring together public health professionals, researchers, policymakers and community advocates. These conferences provide a platform for sharing research findings, discussing emerging public health issues and networking.

  • Webinars and Online Workshops

In an increasingly digital age, webinars and online workshops allow the PHANZ to reach a broader audience. These virtual events cover a wide range of topics, from specific health issues to policy updates.

  • Policy Forums

The PHANZ lead policy forums and roundtable discussions where experts, policymakers and community members come together to discuss pressing public health policy issues. These events lead to valuable insights and recommendations for policy change.

  • Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns

The PHANZ spearheads advocacy campaigns on critical public health issues such as vaccination, smoking cessation, mental health support and environmental conservation. These campaigns can include public awareness events, educational initiatives and policy advocacy efforts.

  • Community Health Fairs

Organising community health fairs or expos are an important opportunity to connect with the public directly. These events provide opportunities for health screenings, wellness education and access to local health resources.

  • Training and Workshops

The PHANZ conducts training sessions and workshops for public health professionals. These events enhance skills and knowledge in various areas, such as epidemiology, health promotion and emergency preparedness.

  • Collaborative Partnerships

Hosting events in collaboration with other organisations, including government agencies, non-profits, and academic institutions, can amplify the impact of public health initiatives. It also fosters an interdisciplinary approach to health challenges.

  • Youth Engagement and Education Programs

The PHANZ is exploring opportunities to develop programmes and events aimed at educating and engaging young people in public health issues. We hope to encourage them to become advocates for their own health and that of their communities.

  • Health Equity Forums

These events focus on addressing health disparities and inequities within communities. They bring together stakeholders to discuss strategies for achieving health equity.

  • Research Symposia

These events provide a platform for researchers to present their findings and engage in discussions on topics relating to public health.

  • Health Policy Debates

Organising debates on contentious public health issues allows for a balanced discussion of different perspectives and can inform public opinion and policy decisions.

  • Annual General Meetings (AGMs)

Our AGM provides an opportunity for the PHANZ members to review the organisation's activities, elect leaders and set priorities for the coming year.
