The PHA - an informed, collaborative and strong advocate for public health.

Annual Public Health Champion Award 2008 Nominations

Purpose

The purpose of the award is to

  • identify outstanding individuals
  • profile the issue or work of the individual
  • raise the profile of the PHA.

Criteria for Selection

  • The award will be offered to those who have been seen to have focused on PHA’s priorities during the previous year.
  • The award may be offered to those who have made an ongoing contribution to public health over many years.
  • Nominees do not need to be members of the PHA, though priority will be given to nominations of members.

Note: The award in its present form will be made to individuals as opposed to groups of two or more.

The recipient may be:

  • well known in a local public health community
  • a well known national public health figure
  • has been regularly in the news on a major public health issue
  • has made an outstanding contribution to public health in the past 12 months.

Process

The process is simple:

  1. Send a letter to the Public Health Association, P O Box 11-243, Wellington, or email pha@pha.org.nz with the name of your nominee.
  2. In a paragraph or two give the reason for your nomination. The more information, the more helpful it will be to your nomination.

Our deadline is Friday 30 May 2008.

The PHA award ceremony will be held during the conference dinner.

Selection

A public health champion committee will be established and choose the successful nomination.

Nominations come from either the Branches or Caucuses. Therefore each Branch and Caucus is entitled to nominate someone. This also must be supported by another person. So all nominations must be nominated and seconded.

For example, Bob Smith is nominated by the Canterbury Branch. Jo Bloggs and Sarah Lake, members of the Canterbury branch, will send in a nominating letter and seconding letter. Bob doesn’t necessarily need to be a member of PHA but is working in public health in Canterbury, hence why nominated by Canterbury.

Caucuses can also nominate.
