The Public Health Association, supported financially by the Ministry of Health, has identified a set of minimum competencies that apply generally for all public health practitioners, irrespective of background or area of work. The intention of this is to ensure that all of the public health workforce has a basic shared knowledge and understanding. These competencies in no way replace or undermine specialist skills and competencies of specialists working in different parts of the sector. Rather they provide a common platform for greater collaboration, teamwork and understanding as together we work for better health for all.
